 Hi Friends!

It's been a super long while since I shared a post regarding our shop over the years.  I've had several expansions in the past 10 years and happy to be adding production partners to the team in 2024.  I am rolling out faith based coffee mugs with inspirational scriptures on them.  These are getting listed on Etsy this week and the campaign to advertise is well on it's way.  Bookmark TheMillersHouse on Etsy to get notified of new listings are they are added.  I look forward to serving you this year and beyond.

New Projects on the Horizon

Man, do you ever get in a rut and have way too many unfinished projects in your studio?  Do you get unmotivated because there is too much clutter and you just can't get inspired?  That's where I have been for several months!  Work schedules collide with kids' schedules and extra side jobs take 1st place over being creative can leave anyone cranky and uninspired.

This month, I vowed to myself that I would not be able to pick up anything new to work on, until I completed promised projects over the course of the year.  So I got in the studio and started picking up one item at a time and finding a place for it.

After a few minutes, (maybe a couple of hours), I started to feel overjoyed that I could see my workspace areas reappear from the stacks of denim jeans that still needed to be hemmed, or remnants of a prom dress created in the Spring ... I could BREATHE ... I could envision new ideas as I began to feel the fabric and get motivated to do something new and exciting!

Still, I made sure that I wrote a list of priorities of all the projects that I wanted to complete between now and Christmas.  Oh yeah ... Christmas is only 4 months away!  SHOCKING. Yeah.  I know.  So, I have 2 major projects that need to be done before the end of September and I WILL MAKE Christmas items on time this year.  <-- I sure hope I can meet this milestone!  :D  LOL

When you visit Etsy, don't forget to stop by TheMillersHouse and don't confuse us with MillersHouse - we aren't related - but I bet he does some really cool woodworking stuff too.  ;)

Take Care my friends, and I hope to be back soon with some more amazing creations to share.  <3

A Big Hearty Hello for 2015

It's been a super long time since I've made an effort to post to my blog...and I can make a load of excuses.  But the reality of it has been, that I had been focused on selling the house that I had been remodeling for over 8 years and moved from the Midwest back to California to be closer to my elderly mom.

2013 was the year of a new job making new friends and learning about lots of data.  You see by day, I am an IT Geek and by night I usually fill my soul with sewing machine vibrations and create lots of wonderful goodies! <3  And again, I was MIA from the blog, for the year ... probably just being a geek.

I did make these wonderful pillow covers that fit 18" x 18" pillow forms!  Won't you share some love for this gorgeous beauty?

2014 was a tough transition, but now starting afresh in 2015 with Joy and Peace and Determination to make this one of the best years yet!

The Etsy shop (http://themillershouse.etsy.com) is back up and I've relisted some of the items in inventory and creating amazing new products!  This year, we will be focusing on essential oils, tote cases and organizers.  We have a large community of oilers that we will be making products for.  Also, the hooping community will be excited to see a special category in my shop for their hooping covers, bags, and supplies!

I'm very much excited to start up again and welcome your support!  Please share us once again with your friends and family.  We will be promoting our products with referral coupons starting in February!  For each custom referral coupon that is redeemed, you may be eligible to receive free gifts from TheMillersHouse!  How cool is that!?

Thank you so much for your patience, and look forward to a fantastic 2015 and making great new friends this year!

Meet Stephanie of OldSoulStyle ~

I am Stephanie and I make a variety of paper creations and jewelry. I started making and creating at a very young age because as a child I refused to just sit around and play with toys. I asked for craft kits for every special occasion. At age thirteen, I received a scrapbook kit and fell in love! I have been making paper crafts ever since and I really enjoy making cards and tags.

I started making jewelry with my Mom a couple of years ago
and that became a component of my shop.

Inspired by so many things and my inspirations
are constantly changing.

I love anything that is or appears to be vintage or old.

I also am drawn to birds, flowers, and unique patterns.

Most recently, I began making miniature envelopes as a way to recycle my scrap paper and they became a surprise success in my shop. As a result, I am now selling sets of envelopes in various themes and colors.

Hymn Heart Box

Let's take some home decor high gloss paint and transform these lovely textured heart boxes into magnificent beauty! Top glossed over with 1918 Hymn music sheet. Words of blessing from the "Lord, I Hear Showers Of Blessing" by Elizabeth Codner. If only it were a music box, the tune would be so lovely and full of blessings for those who open the heart box.

Inside the box is lined with red felt and many little small keepsakes can be stored safely away.

Retro-Spective

Hello Boldness!

Here is an experiment turned amazing! I had long considered working on my own style of apron design and worked on something that I could transform a lovely vintage tablecloth with square lined corners into an apron for homesteading.

Keeping the corner of the apron by aligning the squared lines was a bit tricky, but once you have your tablecloth ironed out, it is much easier to lay down your pattern for a symmetrical look. I added a few extra large stretch corduroy yoyos to give the effect of large front buttons.

Here is the result!

Tidy Up The Kitchen

I recently decided to work on a project that is just too practical. Let's tidy up unseemly shopping bags into these disposable bag dispensers. Real quick and easy on sewing some dishcloths to match your kitchen motif.

Both of these can be found in my Etsy shop.

Pleasure Pillows

Do your cats have a special place for all their toys? We keep our toys in a small clothes basket ... mind you, it's not full of toys. But every night, they knock over their basket and spread toys all over the house. I only wish I could train them to pick up their toys! ;)

Well, after inspecting the sad state of some of the catnip critters ... some have lost eyes and tails and ... what was that thing? Some are barely recognizable! LOL I have decided to give them a few simple pleasures. Nothing fancy, but full of fun. This year, we are to simplify.

Oh yes! Cats go batty over these little pyramids filled with catnip ... Puur-eeoow! Can you just see your cat doing the bunny kick on this?

10th Anniversary 9.11.11

Today has been a difficult day for Americans nationwide and abroad. We are in remembrance of of the tragic events that transpired 10 years ago in NYC. I've seen a lot of postings on FB with deep condolences to families that were affected during that time. There are also a number of new Treasuries posted on Etsy with lovely images depicting September 11 through artists' creations.

I hope that Americans find peace and know that on this day we are all United. We still stand together. We are still the Land of the Free. Thank you to all who serve for our great Nation.

Cats In Disguise

A big hearty welcome!

Yep, it's that time of the year when we start creating whimsical sock 'things'. This is only our 2nd year making these, but last year they were a hit! You'll be amazed at how much laughter one of these fluffy babies can be! They each have their own character and they even talk. Well, in your head they do! But there is no end to the fun you'll have with the family of cats in disguise.

I know ... some of you don't care for cats. But your dog might, or maybe your feline needs a snuggle pal? We thought of pumpin' these guys with catnip for those special 'needs' ... so if you're one of those special orders, who just needs a fix, be sure to drop us a line!

How much cuter and stranger can you be at the same time?

Okay, you get the point.

Retro Black & White Skirt

Well, it's been an interesting start of September so far. Still trying to catch up on July and August projects and have neglected my personal sewing. So ... decided to get off my duff and work on a skirt for myself. :)

The fabric was indeed purchased off of Etsy and it's a beautiful retro textured polyester blend. Very thick and wavy. Is that how you describe textiles? Hmmm. I dunno. It's way cute!

I chose a flair skirt pattern with additional tabs on each side of the hips for added cuteness.
My goodness, the skirt turned out adorable!

The vintage fabric was purchased at the KeepingHome Etsy Shop and the skirt pattern used is a 2004 NEW LOOK 6345 Style F. The fabric was easy to work with, but even though the sewing pattern states *easy on the front cover, I found it a bit challenging otherwise.

If you choose to use this pattern, make sure you align the tabs properly and sew the buttons on before attaching your back facing on the yoke. For a nicer look, do a back stitch on the back facing to finish it off.

2.5 yards at 60" width did the trick on this beauty! Also pay careful attention to the finish size measurements. The pattern runs a bit snug, especially if you're using non-stretch material.

The Marble Faun, 1859

Methinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied.

~Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Marble Faun, 1859
